Grid supply is under strain. XM, the national system operator, has implemented local load disconnections this year, mostly across the Caribbean region. As reported by El Colombiano, XM has warned of a firm-energy shortfall extending into 2027-2028. Electricity costs add further pressure: commercial customers pay full-cost tariffs plus a 20% solidarity contribution, and wholesale market prices can swing sharply month-on-month.
Solar resources are favourable, with daily irradiation of 4–6 kWh/m² across most of the country, per the Ministry of Environment. Law 1715 of 2014 offers tax incentives for renewable energy investment. Energy storage systems reduce grid energy purchases and maintain critical loads during outages.
Colombia's electrical code, NTC 2050, is based on the US standard NFPA 70, and the grid runs at 60Hz. The SOSEN's SSE-HL8-15K-P2SA series split-phase hybrid inverter has a rated AC voltage of 120V or 240V and works at 50Hz or 60Hz, so it fits the local grid.
The inverter runs grid-connected or off-grid, switches to backup power quickly when the grid fails, and accepts high-power PV input. It works with 40-60V batteries at a maximum charge and discharge current of 275A per unit, and up to six units can run in parallel for a combined 90kW. The IP66-rated enclosure allows installation indoors or outdoors.
This project uses one SSE-HL15K-P2SA to run a small office on solar power and stored energy. The 20kWp PV array supplies the office during the day, and the 45kWh battery stores surplus energy for use when solar generation is insufficient. The system powers common office equipment, including computers, printers and kitchen appliances.
Using more of its own solar generation lowers the office's grid purchases and its electricity bill. A single inverter handles PV input, battery charging and discharging, and the grid connection, which keeps the installation compact.
Higher demand calls for more capacity than one inverter provides. This project connects five SSE-HL15K-P2SA units in parallel to form a 75kW system with 180kWh of battery storage and a 100kWp PV array. The system serves a commercial office building and supplies critical loads in its data center.
Computers, network equipment and data processing systems are sensitive to power interruptions, and even a brief outage can disrupt operations and cause losses. The SSE-HL15K-P2SA switches from grid to backup power in under 10ms, keeping connected loads running when the grid fails. Actual backup performance depends on system configuration, battery availability, load conditions and equipment compatibility.
Solar generation and stored energy also reduce the building's grid purchases and lower its electricity costs. Where the distributor offers time-differentiated tariffs, stored energy can cover loads during peak-rate hours.
The inverter carries UL and RETIE certifications, covering American safety standards and Colombian electrical installation regulations. Parallel operation lets the system grow with the load, up to six units and 90kW.
A 40kW charger is a large single load. This project uses three SSE-HL15K-P2SA split-phase inverters, combined to form a 45kW three-phase 220V system that fits the local AC configuration.
The system pairs a 65.7kWp PV array with 120kWh of battery storage and powers a 40kW EV charger. Solar generation and stored energy feed the charger, which reduces the energy the station draws from the grid when sufficient solar and battery power are available.
The inverter accepts 40-60V batteries at a maximum charge and discharge current of 275A per unit, so the battery can deliver and absorb high power quickly. The three-unit system provides a peak output current of up to 125A.
During on-site technical support, SOSEN’s team learned from the customer that the system can fully charge an EV in approximately 1.5 hours. Charging time depends on the vehicle's battery capacity and starting charge. Quick charging saves users time, and the station buys less electricity from the grid, which lowers its operating costs.
All three projects run on the same SSE-HL15K-P2SA: one unit for a 15kW office system, five in parallel for a 75kW office and data center installation, and three combined for a 45kW three-phase EV charging system. In each, solar generation and battery storage reduce the energy drawn from the grid, which lowers electricity costs and moves the site closer to energy independence.
SOSEN is dedicated to the R&D and manufacturing of energy storage inverters, and the SSE-HL15K-P2SA is part of that range for commercial projects in Colombia and across Latin America.

Up to six units, for a combined 90kW. The projects above use one, three and five units.
Yes. In the EV charging project, three SSE-HL15K-P2SA units combine to form a 45kW three-phase 220V system.
It accepts 40-60V low-voltage batteries, with a maximum charge and discharge current of 275A per unit.
Yes. The enclosure is rated IP66, so the inverter can be installed indoors or outdoors. All three projects above are indoor installations.
