Why Africa Solar Distributors Stopped at SOSEN's Booth at Solar & Storage Live Africa

Solar & Storage Live Africa 2026 took place in Johannesburg this March 25-27th, bringing together distributors, installers, and energy buyers from across the southern African region. It draws a specific kind of crowd — people who are already in the market, already dealing with the problems, and showing up because they need real answers, not brochures. That's the right kind of room to be in, and it's why SOSEN was there.

Who Was There and What They Were Dealing With

The majority of visitors who stopped at our booth came from southern Africa — South Africa itself, but also neighboring countries in the region where grid instability is a shared reality. People came with specific pain points: unreliable utility power, rising electricity costs, and in some cases, locations where grid connection isn't even a realistic option.

What that told us is that demand across southern Africa isn't uniform. Some buyers need a hybrid system that works with an existing grid connection but can carry the load when power goes out. Others are completely off-grid and need something that runs independently. Commercial operators have a different set of requirements altogether — higher capacity, three-phase output, and the ability to handle serious loads. That range of need is exactly why we chose to exhibit three distinct flagship products.

The Three Flagship Products We Exhibited

8–24kW Three-Phase Hybrid Inverter

This was the product that generated the most conversation at the booth, and the reason is straightforward: it maps directly onto what a household in southern Africa actually needs. The 8–24kW power range covers most residential applications. It runs on low-voltage battery systems, which are more accessible and easier to install than high-voltage alternatives. The 98% conversion efficiency — achieved through SiC technology — means less energy is lost in the conversion process, which matters when every kilowatt-hour of stored solar is doing real work. On/off-grid switching under 10ms for uninterrupted power. The 150% three-phase unbalanced output handles the reality that household loads are rarely distributed evenly. IP66 rating means it holds up outdoors.

For a distributor, this is the kind of product that's straightforward to position: it solves a well-defined problem, the specs are competitive, and the installation isn't complicated.

6kW Off-Grid Inverter

This product is for a different customer entirely — one who isn't connected to the grid and isn't planning to be. In parts of southern Africa, grid extension simply isn't coming in any near-term timeframe. For those buyers, a reliable off-grid system isn't an upgrade, it's the only option. The 6kW output covers household loads, and the system is designed to work with standard battery configurations that local installers are already familiar with.

If you're a distributor working in rural or peri-urban markets, this is worth a close look.

60kW Commercial & Industrial Solar Hybrid Inverter

For SMEs, agricultural operations, light manufacturing, or any commercial facility that can't afford downtime — this is the product. Three-phase output at 60kW handles substantial loads. The hybrid design means it works with grid power when available and switches to battery when it isn't, without manual intervention. For a business calculating what power interruptions actually cost them per hour, the math on a system like this tends to work out quickly.

This product drew interest from buyers with commercial applications in mind — facilities managers, energy contractors, and business owners who are past the point of asking whether they need a storage solution and are now asking which one.

Where Things Stand After the Show

Some of the conversations from Johannesburg are still ongoing. What we can say is that the interest was genuine and specific, we are delighted to have established partnerships with these partners.

The southern Africa market is moving fast, and the window for early distributor partnerships is narrow. If you're evaluating whether SOSEN fits your market, the three products we exhibited are a good starting point. Browse them below, or reach out to our team directly.
